Content (Syllabus outline)

Advanced concepts of database design. Normal forms and benefits of their use.
Views. Basics of transactions.
MVC model and web interface for accessing the database.Basic concepts of database management: user roles and privileges, logical and physical space, logging and modes of DBMS execution.

Objectives and competences

The main course objective is to introduce the students to the principles of database management systems and their various usages, and prepare them for autonomous and efficient use of available data base tools.
Developing web interface for accessing the database.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:
Comprehensive knowledge of databases and database management systems, underlying principles, and their exploitation.
Application:
Efficient use of various database tools and query language SQL.
Reflection:
Introduction and comprehension of interactions between theoretical principles (especially those of relational data model) and their practical use in modern databases.
Transferable skills:
Practical knowledge in data bases strengths student's abilities for data organization during the study and at future work.

Assessment

Students receive one grade from the project with defence.
